Toastmasters marks 90 years, including 75 in Oklahoma

proclamation

District 16 Toastmasters International is celebrating 75 years this month, which coincides with the 90th anniversary of the parent organization this year.

Toastmasters members meet weekly to learn and practice public speaking and leadership techniques.

Governor Mary Fallin has proclaimed November as Toastmasters Month in Oklahoma.

The meetings have no instructors. Instead, members evaluate each others’ presentations.

Toastmasters clubs around the world will celebrate the anniversary with special meetings and events. To learn more about the Toastmasters club experience or to find a club, go to www.toastmasters.org.

Famous Toastmasters who have benefited from the program include Tom Monaghan, founder of Domino’s Pizza; Chris Matthews, host of “Hardball With Chris Matthews”; and Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary.

Today, more than 300,000 men and women are improving their communication and leadership skills through the organization. There are more than 14,650 clubs in 126 countries throughout the world. Since the organization’s inception, more than 4 million people have found their voices and gained confidence through the organization.
